The RLW-30 was a prototype 24 hour MRE tested by Special Forces troops in September-October 1986. Containing 2,100 calories yet only weighing 15 ounces, this was an innovative and state of the art design that surprisingly wasn’t ever adopted. This ration after shipping and fees cost me $560. It is the only time one has ever been filmed – and like many rations on this channel it can serve as a reference point for collectors, historians, and people interested in food packaging and storage.
This is the only one I have ever seen outside of Natick Food Lab’s prototype archives. It was a well worth it gamble to see how this freeze dried ration held up. See for yourself how this one turns out.
